SUMMARY:7th Annual Let's Talk Racism Conference: 2023
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the 7th Annual Let’s Talk Racism Conference! Our theme this year is What’s at Stake?: Understanding the Attacks on Truth-Telling in Education. The keynote address will occur Friday\, March 17th at 6:30pm and conference sessions will take place Saturday\, March 18th from 9:00am – 4:00pm \, at North Carolina Central University. We plan to be back in-person this year! \nThe purpose of this event is to give K-12 educators and pre-service teachers an opportunity to engage in sessions centered on the impact of systemic racism and ways of dismantling it in our schools.  A CRT framework helps us achieve this goal.  While educators are the target audience\, we welcome all community members to participate. \nWe are thrilled to announce that Dr. Gholnecsar (Gholdy) Muhammad is an Associate Professor of Literacy\, Language\, and Culture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has previously served as a classroom teacher\, literacy specialist\, school district administrator\, curriculum director\, and school board president. SUMMARY:Science for All Summit
DESCRIPTION:On April 5-6\, 2023\, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will host the inaugural Science for All Summit at the Friday Conference Center in Chapel Hill\, NC. The Summit is a community convening to advance inclusion\, diversity\, equity\, and access (IDEA) in the fields of science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics (STEM). The theme of this year’s Summit is From IDEA to Action. \nThe purpose of the Summit is to engage educators\, practitioners\, researchers\, thought leaders\, and other change agents in conversation and knowledge building around emerging issues and innovative strategies related to advancing IDEA in STEM. Putting these ideals into practice requires an intentional focus on creating authentic and adaptive environments while simultaneously cultivating a community that collaborates\, innovates\, and implements promising practices shown to effect sustainable change. At the Summit\, we will provide opportunities to share new research findings\, exchange resources\, discuss strategies\, and demonstrate effective practices and interventions. Our ultimate goal is to move From IDEA to Action as a community in the coming year.
