The NC Leadership Programs provide training and support to improve recruitment, retention, and diversity with superintendents, assistant superintendents, & principals in North Carolina. This programming reimagines the Leadership School of 1973 formed by Dr. Flood, which experimented with Educational Leadership Development. Currently, we have 2 groups we support, those currently in the profession and those aspiring to be superintendents.

The Dudley Flood Center Ambassador Program operates as an 8 -18 month cohort model for aspiring superintendents of color to:
- Create immersive historical experiences making connections between the past and present
- Provide specialized support and coaching using relevant problems of practice
- Explore texts and resources to explore and address present day issues/policy implications
- Examine explicit and implicit biases to eliminate trauma inducing environments
- Innovate new systems and practices that take apart those practices and systems which create injustices/inequities
- Create a safe, thriving, and inclusive system of belonging
- Prepare leaders to effectively “move” and thrive within the education ecosystem
Participating aspiring superintendents are provided a stipend and travel costs are covered.
Superintendents of Color
The purpose of the Superintendents of Color convening is to establish a supportive network that provides resources and guidance needed to navigate unique challenges successfully. Beginning at North Carolina Central University in 2021-2022, we began a dialogue with leaders of color and other underrepresented minorities serving as superintendents in North Carolina. Twenty-two of the twenty-six sitting superintendents of color participated in the daylong event.
During the convening this year, we will focus on the following topics:
- Leadership
- District Culture
- Resource Management
- Community Engagement
- Building Your Network
- Equity , Excellence, and Opportunity
