Dr. Flood served on the UNC Board of Governors for 12 years, during which he was secretary from 2011 to 2012. He participated in three standing committees:

• Committee on Educational Planning, Policies, and Programs (2001-2003, 2007-2008)
• Committee on Personnel and Tenure (2003-2007; vice chairman 2006-2007; chairman 2008-2009, 2011-2013)
• Committee on University Governance (2009-2011)

In 2013, a resolution was passed to honor Dr. Flood for his dedicated service.
