Join DNCR’s American Indian Heritage Commission for “Teacher Talk: Unpacking American Indian Heritage Month” on Wednesday, October 28 (6–7 p.m)

  • Free virtual event, followed by Q&A
  • Educators may request a 0.1 CEU post-attendance

North Carolina’s story cannot be told without elevating the histories, voices, lived experiences, and contributions of the American Indian communities who live here. In preparation for American Indian Heritage Month, join the NC Department of Natural & Cultural Resource’s American Indian Heritage Commission for a meaningful discussion exploring how to elevate indigenous people in your classroom with care, accuracy, and respect.

Led by Stephen Bell, Associate Director of the AIHC, previous History Counts Award recipient with the Dudley Flood Center, a citizen of the Lumbee Tribe and experienced educator, this discussion will help teachers deepen their understanding of contemporary American Indian tribes in North Carolina, challenge common misconceptions, and discover trusted resources and practical ways to bring Native perspectives into classroom learning year-round.
