About the Organization

Mission

The Mission of the Marian Cheek Jackson Center is to honor, renew, and build community in the historical Northside and Pine Knolls neighborhoods of Chapel Hill, NC, and to do justice by the legacies of vision, value, action and example of neighbors whose oral histories we hold in our Trust.

Services

* Community-first organizing
* Learning Across Generations program: Community and civil rights history workshops for K-12
* Oral History archive for local historically African-American neighborhoods
* Advocacy for fair housing
* Land Bank program
* Housing Retention programs to support housing repairs, property tax assistance, wills clinics, and other legal services
* Heavenly Groceries food ministry
* Student Service Partnership programs
