The annual Color of Education summit is a one-day convening focused on race, equity and education in North Carolina. Educators, policymakers, nonprofit leaders, researchers, students, parents, philanthropists, and community members committed to racial equity are encouraged to attend.
Logistics
Directions and Parking: For those of you who are driving to the Convention Center, maps of nearby parking and directions can be found here. Please enter through the main RCC entrance on Salisbury Street. Breakfast and registration will begin at 8:00AM in the lobby outside of Ballrooms A and B. Seating for the Coates keynote will begin at 2:45pm. Please allow adequate time to go through security.
Security and Bags: All attendees, including full day attendees and those joining us for the Ta-Nehisi Coates keynote only, will have to go through a bag check for security purposes before entering the Coates talk. Please make an effort to limit the size of your bag or opt not to bring a bag if possible to ensure that this process moves as quickly as possible.
Water: We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle to refill at stations available throughout the space.
Books: All attendees will receive a free copy of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ new book, The Water Dancer, which will be distributed as you exit following the Coates keynote. We will also have available for sale a selection of books authored by our speakers including Ali Michael, Sally Nuamah, and Coates’s other titles.
CEUs: CEU certificates will be available for pick up at the registration tables during lunch.

Award-winning author Ta-Nehisi Coates will headline the event as its closing keynote speaker. Coates will be reading from his forthcoming book and first novel The Water Dancer slated for release at the end of September.
Ali Michael, Ph.D., will keynote the opening plenary session. Michael is the co-founder and director of the Race Institute for K-12 Educators, and is the award-winning author of Raising Race Questions: Whiteness, Inquiry and Education. Michael also teaches in the Diversity and Inclusion Program at Princeton University.
