After completing 12th grade, Dudley enrolled in a Historically Black College and University (HBCU)- Durham State Normal School, now known as NC Central University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. During his time at Central, Dudley realized the difference between experience and exposure. He expected to learn through the mindset encouraged by professors: “If you believe you’re smart, you will become smart.” Thanks to his early education, which emphasized English, Dudley was very articulate when he reached college. After graduating, he initially aspired to attend law school but soon shifted his career path to public service.
