Mapping the Movement
Building and strengthening a visible network of organizations engaged in equity work across the state.
WHAT?
WHAT WE ARE DOING
Mapping the Movement is a statewide initiative that connects and elevates organizations advancing racial equity in education — particularly those led by or centering communities of color. Through an interactive map, a growing network, and now a series of in-person and virtual convenings, the initiative fosters connection, resource sharing, and collective action across North Carolina.
In 2023, the Flood Center expanded Mapping the Movement to include regular convenings that continue the collaborative spirit of Color of Education throughout the year. Since then, we’ve facilitated six gatherings and brought together over 100 organizations to align around shared priorities, while amplifying student voices in the process. These gatherings have helped network members identify and align around four shared priorities.
SO WHAT?
WHY IT MATTERS
Many equity-focused leaders and organizations work in isolation, despite sharing common goals. Mapping the Movement helps break these silos by making existing efforts visible, fostering collaboration, and elevating community-rooted solutions.
To date, nearly 20 individuals and organizations have formed new partnerships through the network, aligning across research, policy, and practice. These collaborations are not only strengthening the field — they’re driving systems-level change grounded in lived experience.
NOW WHAT?
GET INVOLVED
Mapping the Movement continues to grow as a powerful statewide network advancing racial equity through shared learning, aligned action, and collective leadership. With statewide pop-ups, ongoing convenings, and an expanding map of organizations, we are deepening engagement across communities.
