About the Organization

Mission

Public Impact’s mission is to improve education dramatically for all students, especially low-income students, students of color, and other students whose needs historically have not been well met.

Services

Public Impact’s Opportunity Culture addresses racial inequity by helping mostly Title I schools “extend the reach” of excellent teachers to more students, increasing the number of students of color achieving high-growth learning. Research shows that when teachers join teams led by “multi-classroom leaders” (MCLs), student growth jumps from the 50th percentile on average to the 75th-85th in math, and nearly that in reading. By paying MCLs far more (20%+) within budget, schools attract & retain more great teachers, including teachers of color—many of whom reach more students as MCLs. Some MCL teams include paid teacher residents, providing an equitable path into teaching. More NC districts join each year. Public Impact also conducts research to close equity gaps in low-poverty schools.
