About the Organization

Mission

SIDEKICKS seeks to provide a trauma-informed environment dedicated to the holistic treatment of public school students of color, while delivering a uniquely rewarding martial arts program that includes social-emotional support, advocacy, and supportive coaching for Durham’s youngest rising leaders.

Services

SIDEKICKS Academy provides weekly, free Taekwondo training, weekly academic tutoring, monthly social justice programming, consistent person-centered mental health support for students, wraparound support for the families of our students, and field trip opportunities to expose our students to the world around them. Currently SIDEKICKS Academy serves over 150 students from three majority Black and Brown-serving Durham public elementary schools.
