About the Organization

Mission

The mission of Student U is to empower students in the Durham Public Schools to own their education by developing the academic skills and personal well-being necessary to succeed in college and beyond.

Services

Student U walks with students and families from sixth grade through college, providing holistic support each step along the way. While Student U originally existed as only a middle school program, we have grown to meet the needs of our students as they, too, have grown, by creating our high school and College Promise programs. Each program is composed of different, age-appropriate academic interventions, such as Summer Academy, Year-Round Program, ACT/SAT prep, college counseling, retreats, and internships. Student U knows that while developing academic skills is important, keeping our students socially, emotionally, and physically well is just as crucial to their success. Because of this, students and families have access to a full-time Social Worker and a Learning Specialist on staff.
